Our Editor-In-Chief, Mindy Henderson, and our MDA Ambassadors shared some of their favorite products, then looked high and low to curate even more fantastic items that celebrate universal use. Some are adapted for specific purposes, and ALL were chosen with the community of individuals living with neuromuscular disease, and other disabilities, in mind. You're sure to find something for everyone on your list.
Just don't forget to treat yourself!

Hammered Bar Pendant Necklace
Long necklaces are my favorite because you can pull them on easily over your head instead of dealing with a clasp.
My pop socket is my most used item. It allows me to have a better grip on my phone, especially when taking photos. They come in so many different styles, making it easy to find one that fits your vibe!
The Belt Bag
I love the size of this bag. Big enough to carry a phone, some money or credit cards and a lipstick, but not so big that you have to reach way in and dig around. Easy flap open. Can be worn as a Crossbody, or get creative with the strap and find a way to attach it to the side of a wheelchair
MZROCR Womens Sleeveless Nightgown
I am SO picky about sleepwear. I look for things that are easy to move in, soft and durable. This nightgown comes in 1000 colors and checks all my boxes.
Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara
I’ve tried every mascara on the planet and this one is #1. It is hard to reach up throughout the day and wipe off mascara remnants from under or over my eyes. This one doesn’t go anywhere, and truly makes you look like you are wearing lash extensions.
Smooth & Silky Electric Shaver
Shaving is something I absolutely hate doing! This shaver makes it so much easier and I don’t have to worry about cutting myself or worry about needing a new blade. It charges and can be used on wet or dry skin.
WEILY Tri-Fold Vanity Mirror
This mirror makes getting ready so much easier! I bring it on all my trips because standard hotels mirrors don’t always accommodate my needs and I can place this this mirror anywhere.
Books Planners & Journaling
Erin Condren LifePlanner Collection
I am all about organization and journaling. I love the spiral-bound feature of these journals, and love how they keep me organized for the year.
This is gift all done online. They email you or whoever you gift it to a weekly prompt – favorite childhood memory, what they learned about having kids, their favorite trips. At the end of the year, they turn the stories into a book.
The Truth About Things that Suck by Mindy Henderson
Mindy is a fantastic writer who is funny, honest, and speaks her truth well. It is comforting to read her story and relate on so many levels. And just plain fun to relive her happy memories with her through her words!
This is a must-have for anyone that lives independently with limited mobility. This thermostat truly brings independence to another level by allowing you full control of your living space temperature through a smart phone app.
Vivo Remote Control TV Wall Mount
Anything I can operate from my phone or with a remote gives me an extra layer of independence. This TV wall mount allows you to raise, lower or swivel your 37″ to 70″ television with the press of a button on a remote control.
I use Alexa to turn my lights on and off and I like the reassurance that it gives me when I’m home alone. If I fall, I can say “Alexa, call….” and I don’t have to worry about being stuck without being able to call for help.
So happy I found a brand of shoes that fit my KAFO’s. The footwear features front zippers for easy, accessible wear. So many styles: sneakers, winter boots, and (my personal fave) rainboots! Fun fact: I wore Billy Footwear on the set of “Marry Me”, on the set of Sesame Street, and at NY Fashion Week.
On Clouds Sneakers
I like a lightweight shoe that is flat, supportive, and good for all day use. On Clouds are just that, and they look good with a variety of fun colors.
TOMS Hyde Wedge Bootie
I find sitting in a chair all day in a wedge to be incredibly comfortable. I love the classic Toms wedge bootie that laces up the front for easy on and off.
24 Piece Toy Kids Magic Set
A couple years ago we had a magician at Addison’s birthday party and she got a magic kit that Christmas. I think it’s accessible just because it’s relatively easy to do.
Amazon echo dot
The Amazon echo dot has been nice because you can have reminders go off (think potty training) or we can use it as an intercom to check on her. She can be in her room and have some independence and we can “drop in” and check on her.
Addison liked this because it is an accessory and nobody knew what it was actually for, particularly as an older child that has muscle issues that make potty training difficult.
Unecrin 720 Degree Universal Splash Filter Faucet
I love this faucet attachment! I can easily wash my face and hands and brush my teeth without splashing water all over the counter or having to extend my arms further to reach. (Note: Be sure to check for correct sizing before ordering.)
OXO Etched Zester
I love cooking and use my OXO zester for many things. The handle angle is easy to grip, it has a wider grate surface than other zesters, and the rubber edges keep it from slipping when I brace the end against the countertop.
Corelle Livingware Dinner Plate
Lightweight plates are a must have for me that make a huge impact on my independence. I like these because they are simple, affordable, and durable.
Homecraft Pick-up Reacher
This is possibly the most durable and dependable reacher on the market. It has a superb grip feature and a great lock and holding mechanism that makes picking any object effortless.
Elemis Body Detox Skin Brush
Dry brushing is great for your circulation, and is a fantastic skin exfoliater. No water required. The long handle allows you to either reach hard to get places on your body, or makes it easy for a helper to use. Be sure to read up on the proper way to dry brush!
Palmer’s Cocoa butter formula with vitamin E
I apply Palmer’s every night after I bathe. This formula makes my skin feel so soft, smooth, and clean. I love the sweet smell and lasting hydrating effects.
